Here are answers to some frequently asked questions:
Dress code: How to dress for the Opera?
Our dress code is formal or business. For Omanis, this means Dishdasha and Massar (no khanjar) for men and formal attire for women. For non-Omanis, this means suits with ties for men and long dresses for females. We have a strict no jeans, no tennis shoes, and no t-shirt policy! Please note that local culture requires conservative dress—so please, no exposed shoulders or short dresses above the knees.
Arrival to the Opera House: Get Ready for the Show
- Most of our performances begin at 8:00 pm! That means the shows start at 8:00 pm! Seating begins at 7:30 pm; doors will close at 7:55 pm. Please be sure to be early to ensure entry.
- To ensure that we do not interrupt performances, people who arrive late will not be let into the auditorium until a break intermission. Absolutely no late seating. No tickets can be refunded in the event of late arrival.
- Attendees must present a ticket for admission into the venue after 6pm on the night of performances.
- Please be advised that there will be security scans upon entrance into the Opera House. We thank you for your patience and cooperation.
Codes of Conduct: To Ensure a Great Time for Everyone!
For the well being and safety of performers and the enjoyment of all other guests, we ask that all of our guests abide by the following rules:
- Absolutely no use of mobile phones- please turn off your phones in the auditorium!
- Absolutely no photography or video of the performances. ROHM reserves the right to confiscate mobile phones and/or other devices used to take photos or video of the performance. This matter is dealt with seriously out of respect to the performers.
- No eating or drinking in the auditorium. Food can be consumed in foyer and on the 2nd level balcony only.
- No whistling or talking during the performance.
- Doors to the auditorium will only be open before the performance, during intermissions and at the end of the performance. Do not leave during a performance unless it is an emergency. If you leave, you will be held at the back of the auditorium until a break.
- Smoking is not permitted on the premises
- Ticket holders consent to the recording and filming of themselves as members of the audience.
- No children under the age of 6 allowed. All children must have tickets and must occupy their own seat.

- No refunds and exchanges on tickets purchased.
- If you have any seating problems on the day of an event or upon your arrival, please ask to speak to an usher captain. We will be happy to help you in any way we can!

Performance synopses and information about the program and performers are available in the Programmes and Events section of this website. Please note that for Operas, each seat is equipped with a subtitle device to ensure that you can follow the libretto (lyrics and story) during the performance.
What does the Royal Opera House have to offer during my visit to a performance?
- Concessions with drinks and food are available before the performance (starting at 7:00 pm), and during intermissions. Cash and credit cards are accepted.
- Locations: Level 0 (on the right side of the foyer) & Level 2
Special needs:
If you require special assistance we would be happy to help make your visit pleasant and comfortable. Please ask to see an usher captain upon your arrival
- Availability of handicapped and wheel chair access.
Parking and Getting to the Opera:
Please note that we have parking on site for all official functions and events at the Opera House. The parking entrance is from Entry Point 3, parallel to Sultan Qaboos Highway. Parking may take some time, so please be sure to come early!
Check for your Belongings: Lost Something?
Please be sure to check your seat for any items you may have left behind before leaving the Royal Opera House. For items that you might have lost, you can check our lost and found for the box office or call us at +968 2440 3310.
